Jack Russells are also frequently confused with the Parson Russell Terrier. However, the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) regards the Russell terrier as a sub-type of Jack Russell terrier. Some authorities recognize a similar but separate breed as the Russell Terrier – a shorter-legged, stockier dog, with a range of 20–30 cm (8–12 in).

Each breed has different physical characteristics according to the standards of their national breed clubs size and proportions are often used to tell them apart. Small tan and white terriers that technically belong to other breeds are sometimes known erroneously as "Jack Russells". It is principally white-bodied and smooth, rough or broken-coated and can be any colour. At the paw print ceremony, the trainer had this to say.The Jack Russell Terrier is a small terrier that has its origins in fox hunting in England. It was a cause championed by guardian Omar Von Muller. Uggie was also special in that he was a rescue dog. There, he became the first dog to ever leave his paw prints in concrete, something Lassie nor Benji never achieved in their careers (though, to be fair, they were played by a variety of other dogs over the years). Uggie retired in 2012 in a ceremony at the world famous Mann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Fix It, appearing opposite David Boreanaz and Scoot McNairy. Uggie also had starring roles in the 2011 drama Water for Elephants, where he appeared opposite Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson and Christoph Waltz, as well as the 2006 movie Mr.

Uggie shared scenes in The Artist with his brother Dash and another Jack Russell named Dude. The film went onto win an Academy Award for Best Picture, Lead Actor and Best Director in 2011. In The Artist, Uggie starred as the canine companion of Jean Dujardin's fading silent movie star. Omar Von Muller plans to bury the dog in his backyard.
